The Legacy Continues
Most of us are familiar with Leo Fender's contribution to the electric guitar and bass. Many people are less acquainted with the last company he founded and ran before he passed away. Teaming up with his long-time friend and business partner from the early days of Fender, George Fullerton, the two of them set out to expand upon their brilliance, bringing players more playability and tone, and to also bring back the attention to detail his original company seemed to lose focus of during the 70s and 80s.
Building his guitars by hand, and employing many of the original tooling and manufacturing equipment, G&L quickly re-energized the mojo made so famous in the same Fullerton, California factory the first Broadcaster was made in. However, George and Leo did not want to simply reinvent the wheel and make another "me too" instrument. Instead, they created innovations and design changes they felt would enhance the playing experience for guitar and bass players.
Unlike many mass-produced instruments, that often cost more, G&L gives you choices on the type of neck, color, wood used for the body, and even hardware preferences. Essentially, you are getting your very own, custom instrument, made especially for you, for less than a similar guitar style, with only a few color choices. In addition, G&L impresses with its attention to detail, and takes no shortcuts in making sure every aspect of their instruments are perfect.
Sadly, Leo Fender, and recently, George Fullerton, has passed away, but their legacy of making the best guitars they knew how to build, is thriving and stronger than ever. Where many companies making bolt-on instruments come and go, G&L guitars are seen on stages and in studios around the world. A couple of years ago, Bo Bice called me looking for a Fender Custom Shop guitar, and ended up ordering a G&L Bluesboy which he played on "The Tonight Show", which goes to show you these guitars are no joke! They are the real deal, and Corner Music is proud to be a long time dealer for such a wonderful company.
