When most people think of Rickenbacker Guitars, often the distinctive jangle of the 1960s and a band called the Bee-uls (pronounced Beatles) comes to mind. However, Rickenbacker's contribution to the solid body electric guitar actually goes all the way back to the 1920s, not to mention the company does share the one of the founder's (Adolph) namesake, but was named to capitalize on Adolph's famous cousin, WWI Ace, Eddie Rickenbacker.
Nearly 80 years after the company was founded, the guitars are still made by hand with the same tooling and lacquer finish as before. There is no custom shop model, because all the guitars are custom-built upon ordering, as Rickenbacker refuses to compromise quality control just so they can meet increasing demands and achieve higher profit margins. This is why it seems to take nearly 80 years just to get one should you happen to order one not in stock.
There are many great sounding guitars out there, but nothing sounds like a Rick. I cannot even imagine where Rock & Roll would be without them.
