Ever since the 'unplugged' trend began a few years ago, we've seen a lot of acoustic basses. But nothing has approached the quality and consistency of Breedlove's basses.
The Solo Bass has a really satisfying sound—in large part due to its side port, which lets the player hear more of what he/she is playing. The cedar top and sapele laminate sides/back have lots of warmth, but not at the cost of projection.
The LR Baggs TCV pickup produces a great amplified tone, and it offers you plenty of tone-shaping controls. So plugged or unplugged, either way, Breedlove has you covered. You may not want to go back to your solid-body after spending some time with the beautiful fundamental sound of the Breedlove Solo.
Why We Like It
The Breedlove Solo is fun to play. It sounds good with or without an amp. And it's a heck of a lot easier to play than an upright, but still gives you some of the same acoustic thump. It is imported, but designed and inspected by Breedlove at their Oregon plant. For the price, you really can't beat 'em.
