We’re always big fans of Gibson’s round-shouldered jumbos, and this ’50s J-45 Original is a sweet blend of historic and modern features, for a guitar that sounds and feels like our old favorites.
The slope-shouldered workhorse of the Gibson lineup, the J-45 has been around since 1942 and is considered by many to be an essential member of any serious acoustic player’s arsenal. The ‘50s J-45 Original offers the details inspired by these Kalamazoo golden-era classics, including a subtly aged Vintage Sunburst nitrocellulose lacquer finish, cream button Grover tuners and ’50s-era tortoise pick guard.
A Sitka spruce top over mahogany sides/back give it the perfect balance of presence and warmth. J-45 models consistently produce plenty of low end punch, but not at the expense of mids and highs—perfect for recording and live use. The 24 3/4” scale makes the J-45 easy to play, but with no loss of power. And an LR Baggs Element pickup lets you plug-and-play anywhere.
