Gretsch G9241 Alligator Biscuit Resonator - Sunburst
We’re fans of the warm yet cutting tone of wood-bodied resonator guitars (imagine an acoustic version of a Strat in the 2nd pickup position). Whether you’re going for swampy blues tones, vintage rhythm, fingerpicking, bottleneck or a striking solo voice, the Alligator has the right sound.
The Alligator Biscuit roundneck is a worthy stage instrument:Â The front, back and sides are made of laminated mahogany finished in a handsome, semi-gloss 2-tone sunburst. Aged multi-ply binding on the body and single-ply fingerboard binding give the guitar a nice touch of class. The vintage-style headstock features black vintage lettering over pearloid facing—true to the original Gretsch guitars of the 30s era.
The neck is single-piece mahogany with an easy-playing soft V shape and rosewood fingerboard. Tuners are Grover Sta-Tites. The resonator is the new Gretsch Ampli-Sonic diaphragm made from hand-spun, aluminum, with a 1930s-style “poinsettia-pattern” brushed-metal cover plate. The Alligator is lightweight, too, at around 5 1/2 lbs. An optional gig bag is available.
Why We Like Gretsch Resonator Guitars
Creative guitarists—especially studio-picker tone junkies—are always after a broad array of sounds. And nothing stands out in a mix like a resonator-style guitar, whether played traditionally (roundneck) or with a slide (squareneck). Since vintage instruments can get a little pricey, we’re happy to offer a selection of low-to-mid-priced reso guitars that offer traditional tone and performance without the big investment.
These guitars from the Gretsch Roots Collection do exactly that. Available in both wood and metal bodies, roundneck and squareneck, Gretsch guitars get the authentic sound without the authentic price, and look great doing it.
