Nashville-area guitar builder Clay Alden just brought in a few new basses for us to try. His lo-fi designs are affordable, very playable, and at just 7.8 lbs, this J-style bass is lightweight too.
This Alden Original J-Style Bass 4 is made from poplar, finished in a striking tomato red gloss with a 3-ply white pickguard.
The satin-finished maple neck and rosewood fretboard offer a comfortable, C-shaped profile. Alden hand-winds all his pickups, leaning toward a vintage tone profile, and they’re built to rock.
