Clay Alden typically uses locally sourced barn wood to create different models of solid body guitars and lap steels. On his most recent Raw Lap Steel series, he's put a maple top on a pine body for his ultra simple 2x4-style. The result is a colorful lap steel that looks and sounds great.
A single-coil pickup gives you nice clarity. The bridge is made of of cold-rolled steel mounted in a hardwood tailpiece. A single volume knob takes care of the electronics—and the sound is pure, no-frills Depression-era lap steel.
