You can’t get a much more authentic lap steel than one made from real barn wood. Clay Alden uses locally sourced wood from near his Tennessee workshop (near Nashville) to create his reproduction Depression-style instruments.
Alden winds his own single-coil pickups. Strings pass through the body and the hardwood tailpiece. Simple volume and tone controls take care of the electronics—and the sound is pure, no-frills lap steel.
