Gibson 1936 Advanced Jumbo 2022 - Vintage Sunburst
Gibson 1936 Advanced Jumbo 2022 - Vintage Sunburst
The Gibson 1936 Advanced Jumbo—the “AJ”—has always been one of our favorite acoustics. The original pre-war versions are rare birds, flat-tops of exceptional tone and "gravitas," and these revisited models certainly do justice to their heritage.
With a thermally aged Adirondack spruce top and rosewood back and sides, the AJ brings more punch and low end (AKA: “thump”) than the popular J-45. At the same time, the round-shouldered body offers better tonal balance and a more comfortable playing experience than a traditional jumbo model. Typically, Advanced Jumbos sound just about perfect.
This particular instrument still sounds a little new, but you can hear the woodiness, and expect it to mature beautifully (even now, it’s not short on authority). It’s also an easy player, so you’ll enjoy practicing and performing with it while it grows into the guitar we expect it to become.
