Gibson 1942 Banner LG-2 2023 - Vintage Sunburst
The LG-2 is an interesting bird whose success is completely self-contained. While some guitars aim to offer a wide frequency range rich with overtones, the LG-2 takes a different approach by emphasizing the fundamental midrange. If one side of the sonic spectrum could be described as "orchestral", the LG-2 would be more akin to a single violin. With outstanding balance, and tonal honesty suited perfect for single note lines where clarity is key, this little beast is one of the few small bodied instruments that could cut through a mix as easily as a Dreadnaught, and possibly do so with more potential character.
Even though the bite and volume are all there, the short scale means the bending and vibrato are not only less cumbersome, but encouraged. The "historic" chunky 50's carve neck offers stability and meat to grab on to without being overwhelming, and the body size sits right in the middle of the spectrum making it accessible for anyone of any size.
While the LG-2 may have at one point been considered a student model guitar, it has established itself as a strong contender with a unique voice that deserves a spot in any guitarists lineup. Gibson has continuously impressed us with their attention to detail, and this is as fine an example as we have seen. If the old saying "you need to find the right one" is true, then we can confidently say that this is it.
