The Nord Wave 2 is a versatile performance synthesizer that packs four independent synthesizers into a sleek 20-pound chassis, offering extensive possibilities for layering classic waveforms and samples. With dedicated OLED displays for the Program and Oscillator sections, sound shaping is clear and intuitive. The Wave 2 features a broad range of performance capabilities and hands-on effects, making it Nord’s most versatile performance synthesizer to date.

Layer Up

The Program Layer section includes faders for easy volume control across all four layers. Quick layer focus, pan, solo, and multi-editing controls enhance usability. A new Group feature allows you to group layers for simultaneous processing through shared Filter, Envelope, Arpeggiator, LFO, and Effect settings, enabling the creation of complex multi-layered patches. Additionally, three split points provide up to four zones with optional crossfades.

The Oscillator Section

Each of the Wave 2’s four layers features an Oscillator section with four modes: Analog, Wavetable, FM, and Samples, easily browsed through Nord’s direct category mode. Additional control over shape, sync, and detune is provided, along with a powerful multi-oscillator Unison effect that generates massive Superwaves for rich, complex sounds.

Oscillator Categories

• Virtual Analog: Extensive waveforms ranging from classic analog to harmonically rich variations.
• Samples: A wide selection from Nord Sample Library 3.0, including high-quality sounds from strings, brass, guitars, choirs, and chromatic percussion, as well as exclusive sounds from the Mellotron and Chamberlin.
• Wavetable: A variety of advanced wavetables covering a broad tonal spectrum.
• FM: Configurations with 2, 3, and 4 operators, offering harmonic and inharmonic variations.

Together, these engines create a virtual history of synthesis, and the ability to layer them is incredibly powerful.

Filters, Amp, and LFO

The Filter section offers six types, including an emulation of the legendary “Mini” transistor ladder filter, and is equipped with a full ADSR envelope. A dedicated LFO provides various waveforms for each layer, along with vibrato and an AD/AR Modulation Envelope. The Amp section includes a full ADSR envelope and a new Transient Attack mode for added punch.

Morphing and Impulse Morph

The Wave 2 features extensive morphable parameters—LFO Amount, Oscillator Control, Filter, and Effects—controlled from four sources: Velocity, Aftertouch, Wheel, and Control Pedal. All morph sources can be assigned to control multiple parameters, while the Impulse Morph feature allows for instant parameter changes.

Advanced Polyphonic Arpeggiator and Gate

This synthesizer includes a classic arpeggiator and a Polyphonic mode with editable patterns that re-trigger all held keys. The new Gate mode chops sounds in a rhythmic pattern, while the Pattern mode offers a variety of Rhythmic Patterns for easy customization.

Masterful Effects Section

Each layer has a dedicated Effects section with studio-grade stereo effects, including Tremolo, Pan, Ring Modulator, Chorus, Ensemble, and EQ with Drive control. Effects can be synchronized to the Master Clock, and the advanced stereo Delay effect features Ping Pong and Analog modes. Additionally, separate per-layer Reverb sections include five categories (Booth, Room, Stage, Hall, and Cathedral) with Bright and Dark modes, plus a new Chorale effect for lush modulation.
