There were many distinctive sounds from the 60s, but none more definitive or enduring than the Rickenbacker 12-string. The 360/12 was the original—the standard by which others were judged—and a hands-down favorite. The beautiful Mapleglo finish, triangular fretboard inlays, and inventive tuner placement—together with the Ric’s cutting, chiming tone—combine to create what is still one of the world’s most coveted guitars.
The 360/12 features a full-size, thin semi-hollow body with a rounded front edge and bound back. The top has one ‘slash’ sound hole and the recognizable two-piece pickguard. The two single-coil pickups are routed through traditional volume and tone controls to standard stereo and mono outputs. Switching includes a 3-position pickup selector and blend knob.
The comfortable rosewood fingerboard features a 10” radius and triangle inlays, while the sweeping double cutaways permit access to all 24 frets. Both 6-string and 12-string models come standard with the distinctive “R” tailpiece, classic headstock logo, and of course, the unmistakable Rickenbacker tone. Hardshell case included. This guitar weighs 7 lbs 13 oz.
Why We Like Rickenbacker Guitars
If Rickenbacker’s only contribution to music had been their groundbreaking electric 12-string, we’d still love them. But more than that, Rickenbacker guitars and basses helped create the whole soundtrack of an era. Rickenbackers still sound great, and their body designs, colors, and features are as distinctive today as ever. Also worth noting: Every Rickenbacker instrument is still made in the company’s California factory, just like every one has always been.
