Universal Audio UAFX Max Preamp & Dual Compressor
Universal Audio UAFX Max Preamp & Dual Compressor
If you’re into the idea of studio-grade compression on a pedalboard without diving into menu hell, the Universal Audio UAFX Max Preamp & Dual Compressor is a really impressive piece of gear.
This thing basically takes a handful of classic studio compressors and puts them under your feet. You’ve got flavors inspired by the 1176, LA-2A, and even the old Dyna Comp style compression, so it can go from subtle leveling and warmth to full-on squish and sustain pretty easily.
What makes it cool is that it doesn’t just feel like a “compressor pedal.” It feels more like a studio channel strip built for guitar players.
The built-in 610 preamp emulation adds a ton too. Even with lighter settings, it gives everything a little more richness and harmonic texture. Push it harder and it starts leaning into that warm, slightly driven tube feel that just makes amps react nicely.
And unlike some higher-end digital pedals, it stays really straightforward to use. You can absolutely just plug in and start turning knobs, but if you want to go deeper, the app opens up a bunch of extra tweaking options like EQ shaping, compression ratios, footswitch setup, sidechain filtering, and more.
Honestly, it’s one of those pedals that quietly makes everything sound more polished without feeling overly processed.
