This is one of those basses that looks pretty straightforward at first, but there’s a lot of good stuff going on once you get into the details.
The alder/maple/alder body and 5-piece maple/mahogany neck give it a solid, resonant feel, while the 34" scale and C-shaped neck keep everything familiar and comfortable. The rosewood fingerboard has a 23.625" radius with medium frets, so it has a nice balance between feeling modern and still being easy to get around on.
The pickup setup is a VSP7n Alnico V split-coil in the neck and a VSC7b Alnico V single-coil at the bridge. You can run the bass active or passive, with a 3-band active EQ when you want more control over the sound. The automatic level matching between active and passive is a nice little detail too, since switching between the two doesn't result in a big jump in volume.
At 9lbs 11oz, it's got some weight to it, but nothing unusual for a 5-string with this kind of construction. Overall, the BB735A is a really versatile, well-built bass that can cover a lot of ground without making things overly complicated. Comes with a gig bag.
